Patrick Moase

Co-Founder

Patrick Moase co‑founded Marine Biomedical with Prof. Minghao Zheng in 2021, driven by a shared ambition to establish world‑class medtech innovation in regional Western Australia through the development of PearlBone™. Drawing on nearly two decades in the pearling industry across research science, genetics, legislation, pearl technician work, and general management, Patrick brought deep knowledge of the Australian Pearling Industry and northern marine ecosystems to the early development of PearlBone™. Having worked with the technology’s inventors, Dr Rui Ruan and Prof. Zheng, since its inception in 2016, he played a pivotal role in transforming the patented concept into a regulatory‑ready medical device. As Marine Biomedical’s first employee, he led the design and construction of the company’s cyclone‑rated relocatable cleanroom, the first of its kind in regional Australia and helped establish the foundations for the company’s production and quality systems.

Since then, Patrick has built and led a dedicated team committed to making PearlBone™ the bone substitute of choice in trauma medicine. Under his operational leadership, Marine Biomedical has achieved significant industry recognition, including the 2024 Broome Business of the Year, Innovation Award, and Business with 3–6 Employees Award, followed by the 2025 WA Regional Business Leading with Innovation Award. Outside of his work with Marine Biomedical, Patrick is an active contributor to regional sport through his involvement with Sports Medicine Australia and local sporting clubs. His long-standing community commitment has been recognised through Life Membership of the Broome Touch Association and the Broome Sporting Association’s Service to Sport Award.
